Podcasters Challenge Project Modifications

Alright folks,
I went to cast on my project today and it just wasn't working out. So, I decided to design my own dog coat loosely based off the pattern. Below you will find what I came up with. Of course I'm knitting this for Ernie (which is a large Yorkie) so you would have to increase it to fit your dog, but I think that should be pretty easy. I'm still in the beginning stages of knitting it, so don't hate me if it doesn't work out exactly. Also, I'm pretty sure my yarn in smaller than a worsted weight, so make sure to check your gauge and yardage. I never thought I would design anything, let alone a dog sweater, but here it goes......

Ernie's Loved Dog Sweater

Yarn = 300 yards of a Worsted Weight

Needles = Size 8 US/ 6 mm

Gauge = 4 stitches per inch in stockinette

Cast on 84 stitches with size 8 US/6mm

Join in the round, being careful not to twist.

Knit in K2P2 ribbing for 2 inches.

Pattern Rounds:

Round 1 = K2P2 for 20 stitches, K2 P1, place marker, K2P2 for 12 stitches, K 12 stitches, P2K2 for 12 stitches, place marker, P1 K2, P2K2 for 20 stitches, P2

Round 2 = Same as Round 1

Round 3 = K2P2 for 20 stitches, K2 P1, C2B P2 for 12 stitches, K12 stitches, P2 C2B for 12 stitches, P1 K2, P2K2 for 20 stitches, P2

Continue Rounds 1-3 until the piece measure to the back of the dog's front legs

(8 inches)

On the last round, 12 stitches before round marker start knitting with a new needle. Continue with new needle until you have 12 stitches after marker. (total of 24 stitches on new needle)

With original needle, cast off 4 stitches, work to last 4 stitches on original needle, cast off last 4 stitches.

Work back and forth flat for 1 inch, remember to continue pattern with cables. Cut yarn.

Now begin knitting with new needle in pattern for 1 inch.

Join front and back onto 1 needle making sure to cast on 4 stitches over the leg holes.

Knit to dog's neck in plain K2P2 ribbing.

Next round = K2togP2tog to end of round.

Knit K1P1 ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off loosely

Legs:

Pick 20 stitches around leg hole. Knit in K2P2 ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off Loosely.

C2B = K the 2nd stitch on the left needle without slipping off, then K the 1st stitch and slip both off

Make it your own = The 12 stitch stockinette portion in the middle of the body section would be a great place for you to add your own spin on the coat with more cables, lace, or purl design, etc.
